Bouvard on Immigration Enforcement Through Legal Strategy

By Dennis Bouvard

Plain text

Before too long a leaner anti-immigration faction will show that you even get the demographic results you want not through mockery and generating outrage at 10 Indian students at a game but through sustained and precise legal pressure on the right points.

@patrickberzai I hear that Trump is planning to enforce an old 19th century immigration law that neither been applied but nor repealed which imposes all kinds of requirements on immigrants--they can't go on welfare, they have to have a sponsor--just add they can't give aid to US enemies and

@patrickberzai it's pretty much all covered. But, yes, we are all fated to be replaced, one way or another.

@patrickberzai Then the anti-immigration people must gear up for lawfare. It will be good for discipline.

@patrickberzai People will just have to make a killing on strct immigration enforcement. We managed to do it between 1924 and 1964.

@patrickberzai Then the GOP needs to be remade into a party that does.

@patrickberzai Then the party needs to be remade in Trump's image.

@patrickberzai You don't know that and neither do I. The future is open.

@patrickberzai No, because I can't guess at the odds, but mostly because "the GOP becomes a middle class party" is too vague to bet on. We'd have to agree on what would count as proof--when? 10 years from now? 20?

@patrickberzai I suppose that's good, but parties do need their votes and companies do need people to buy things. And if immigration is cut off as a wage-cutting measure, they'll have to pay for the workers they need. But don't know what will happen and don't believe those who claim to.

@patrickberzai Maybe there are ways to make markets that have not yet been considered. Anyway, if neither bets on the middle class but the middle class keeps reproducng itself, maybe there should be a way of betting on it. (But I wouldn't associate the middle class with independent thought.)
